About Camp Haze

Camp Haze is the result of the hard work and generous contributions of Scott Hazelcorn's family and friends, and is entirely funded by The Scott Hazelcorn Children's Foundation. Its purpose has been to offer a one-week, all expense paid summer experience for children, 7-12, who lost a loved one on September 11, 2001 and for those children who have lost a parent to illness or tragedy. The goal of Camp Haze is to provide these children with refuge from worry and grief, a network of peers and a staff that understands their unique emotional needs.

For the past eleven summers, Camp Haze has more than fulfilled our best hopes and dreams. For the over 85 children that attend, this one week filled with fun and laughter, was an experience they will never forget. The enthusiasm, empathy and honesty of these youngsters were an inspiration to us and to all of those volunteers who shared the experience of this special week. Our goal is that each child will return year after year, to meet old friends, make new ones and eventually serve as counselors to help the future campers share their camp experiences. Our goal could not have been accomplished without the generosity of the Landman family, who offered the use of their camp, Camp Kennybrook, in Monticello, NY. Scott spent five happy summers at their camp when he was a boy, and the Landmans wanted to do something that would honor his memory by keeping his joyous spirit alive. Camp Kennybrook for the 12th summer will host Camp Haze starting August 12, 2013. We expect to have openings for 85-90 children. This year, in addition to camp, we will continue to have an Annual Holiday Reunion Party.

The Camp Haze staff consists of certified teachers, licensed psychotherapist, camp counselors and a camp nurse with years of camp experience. The entire staff has been carefully screened to ensure that they are qualified to meet the needs of the children.

More information about Camp Haze will appear periodically on this website. If you have any questions, call 1.732.469.5111. If you'd like to enroll a camper, please download the 2013 application (Application must be received by 6/15/13).

We hope to once again make Camp Haze a joyful, fun and rewarding experience for all children. Our goal is to put smiles on children's faces; something Scott did so very often. Your child's smiling face will serve as a legacy in honor of Scott's memory, and that of your loved one.
